About This Spot

Stepping into Shochikuen Cafe feels a bit like finding a quiet, welcoming nook tucked away from the bustling streets of Tokyo’s Taito City. The space is intimate and thoughtfully arranged, with a gentle pace that invites you to pause and savor the moment. It’s the kind of place where the small details—a soft hum of conversation, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and the warm glow of morning light—blend effortlessly to create a calm retreat from the urban rush.

This cozy café stands out not just for its inviting atmosphere but for the sincere care woven through its kitchen and counter. Whether you’re settling in for a morning matcha latte made with velvety soy milk or stopping by for a late afternoon treat, the experience feels personal and unhurried. The menu offers more than just vegan and gluten-free options; it feels like an embrace of thoughtful simplicity, with each bite telling a little story. From the comfort of a quietly chewy burger bun to the playful color of a rainbow cake, the flavors here ripple with unexpected warmth and honest craftsmanship.

Shochikuen’s charm is also in its ability to welcome a diverse mix of guests—from early risers who appreciate the soft buzz of an awakening neighborhood, to dessert seekers who find solace in a thoughtfully crafted Mont Blanc or the balanced sweetness of a homemade cookie. It’s not just about food and drink, but about those small, human moments that unfold naturally: sharing a corner table, savoring a strawberry smoothie, or simply watching time slow down over a cup of cocoa.

In a city famed for its fast rhythms, this café’s gentle embrace feels like a quiet, reliable invitation to return—to linger longer, to discover your own favorite corner, and to connect with an understated but genuine hospitality.

Super cute, small cafe open earlier for us early birds. The pastries are delicious, coffee was good, but their black sesame smoothie was fantastic! Totes recommend

I found this little gem whilst waiting to get chopsticks engraved. Vegan food was really yummy. Staff spoke English and very friendly. Highly recommend.

I really enjoy my time here! I’ve gone twice and love getting a snack and dessert here. Though the rainbow cake is the most popular items I think their other desserts such as the tiramisu or cupcakes are better! Most visit if you’re a vegan in Tokyo!

Found this gem online and I was so excited to get to try so many baked goodies that are both GF and vegan!! This place exceeded my expectations - I tried the matcha latte, rainbow cake, matcha/adzuki muffin, chai muffin, packaged cookies, and monte blanc cake - they were all amazing!!! This is one of the places I miss most after leaving Japan, everything was delicious, reasonably priced, and so unique. I can't wait to come here again on my next trip. Thank you for making such amazing gluten free/vegan food!!

I ordered a tamago burger, soy chai latte, and a strawberry cake. The burger was super yum. I love the buns so much. They were kind of chewy and weren't like the common burger buns. The cake was a bit crumbly but the cream and jam balanced it out. I ordered the rainbow cake too but wasn't impressed by it much. The cake was too dry. I would totally visit again just for the burgers though

I should have read the reviews before and not order the red velvet cake. As others said, the cake was dry and very sugary, no real taste. However the Yuba burger was probably the best vegan burger I had in years. The bun was to die for and even though the burger is small, the flavors were on point. Delicious. Would absolutely come back just for this.

Flavours were nice but very simple and the burger was actually very small. I was still quite hungry after. It’s a cool concept but I think a little more variety would have been great, especially of the savoury options. Overall I enjoyed it
